Our new baby...

Yes... yes it is true!  Dave and I have officially adopted... an adorable... sweet tempered... seven month old... auburn haired... GOLDEN RETRIEVER!  Her name is Sadie and we love her to pieces!
Yes, Lily is a big sister... I should add that Amerah considers herself a big sister to BOTH of them too!
It all happened so fast!  On Friday, Dave and I were driving home and passed a sign that said "Golden Retriever for sale."  In the yard was a beautiful auburn haired pup and we couldn't help ourselves, we had to call and inquire.

Before we knew it, Sadie was in our home, scampering around with our Lily!

She is such a sweet, obedient puppy!  She likes to hold hands with her Mama... just like Lily!  Except Sadie will sit up on her hind legs and give me both paws to hold!
The picture above shows pretty well how skinny she is too.  You can't really tell in the other photos, but we can feel her ribs a little too much.  She wasn't getting enough to eat at her previous home (most likely due to ignorance rather than cruelty) and has some aggression over food.  Not toward us though, only toward Lily, and Lily wasn't even trying to steal Sadie's food, Lily was just looking!

There are a few, minor, behavioral issues... most likely due to poor training... but she's young enough and eager to please us so we think we can retrain her fairly easily.

Poor Lily though!  She is getting a taste of her own medicine!  For the last year and a half, she has chomped on Amerah's feet and jumped all over her... now Sadie jumps on Lily and chomps on Lily's ears... and legs... and anything else she can reach!  At first Lily just took it, staring at the newcomer as if to say "what on earth are you doing?!"  Now the two of them roughhouse like crazy!  It's all in good fun though, neither dog is actually injuring the other, they are just playing... in a rough and tumble sort of way!

Sadie came to us with no toys of her own.  Lily is, and always has been a sharer.  She generously shares her toys with my aunt's dog, Gracie, all the time.  Lily does love her toys though.  She always walks around with a toy in her mouth.  In typical sibling fashion, Sadie constantly tries to steal toys.  Even though we bought them a couple new toys.  She doesn't want to play with them, she just doesn't want Lily to play with them.  It never fails, every time Lily picks up a toy, Sadie snatches it from her and then puts it down somewhere else.  Lily is not thrilled with that and is finally starting to assert herself.

Amerah has been warned repeatedly that it isn't the wisest idea to sit on the floor and try to play with them when they are roughhousing.  So we couldn't help but laugh and photograph a lesson learned...

ANDDDDD... my personal favorite of the night...
The first couple days were complete chaos!  Things are starting to settle down around here though, and Sadie is starting to settle in and feel a little more secure in her new family.
